Curriculum

At FRS Kindergarten, learning is a joyful adventure. Our dynamic, hands-on curriculum is carefully designed to spark awe and wonder in every child. Rooted in a child-led, experience-based approach, we follow the children’s interests to create meaningful learning experiences that nurture curiosity, creativity and confidence.

Every activity and environment is thoughtfully planned to suit each child’s unique age and stage of development whilst encouraging them to explore, experiment and discover at their own pace. By combining play, imagination and real-world experiences, we help children build the foundations for lifelong learning and a love of discovery.

  • A young boy wearing a purple shirt and beige pants is sitting on a outdoor pavement, using a tool to paint or work with colors inside a round container. There are also pans with bright green and dark colors, a white egg, and a yellow chalk or crayon on a wooden surface nearby.

    Learning Through Play

Our hands-on, child-led approach follows each child’s interests and stage of development. Children explore, experiment, and create through open-ended play that encourages independence, problem-solving, and imagination.

  • A young child with curly hair painting with green and yellow paints on a sheet of paper at a table. The table has painting supplies, including a palette, a bottle of yellow paint, and cups of water, with other children in the background participating in activities.

    EYFS

We weave the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) principles throughout everything we do, supporting the Prime and Specific Areas of Learning through engaging, meaningful, real-world experiences.

  • A woman and a young girl preparing to shake the traditional Jewish bread, challah, during a celebration or religious ceremony at a table. The table has foods, candlesticks, a shofar, and other items.

    Jewish Values

Our nursery life is guided by Jewish values such as kindness (chesed), charity (tzedakah), and caring for the world (tikkun olam). Through stories, celebrations, and everyday actions, children learn to show respect, gratitude, and compassion, building a strong sense of identity and community.

  • A woman and two children looking at a book together in a library, surrounded by shelves of children's books.

    British Values

We promote British values through daily experiences that nurture respect, responsibility, and a sense of belonging. Children learn about democracy, fairness, and celebrating differences, helping them grow into confident, caring members of their community.

  • A young boy sitting on a wooden surface holding a yellow duckling, wearing a navy blue KinderGarten shirt, smiling, with a plain wall in the background.

    Animal Experiences

Regular interactions with our Therapy Dog and visiting animals help children develop empathy, confidence, and calmness. Animal encounters spark curiosity and a sense of care for the natural world.

  • A young girl with curly hair is using a large metal spatula to press or flip something on a wooden workbench in a classroom or workshop setting.

    Woodwork and Creative Construction

Woodwork sessions allow children to safely explore real tools and materials, developing fine motor skills, creativity, and perseverance as they bring their ideas to life.

  • A young boy in a purple sweatshirt holding a tube of tomato purée in front of his face, preparing to make a pizza with pizza dough, tomato paste, canned corn, and rolling pin on a table in a classroom.

    Cooking and Food Exploration

Children love getting hands-on in the kitchen, measuring, mixing, tasting, and learning about healthy choices and cultures through food.

  • Two young girls in purple jackets playing on outdoor climbing equipment at a playground. Other children are in the background.

    Physical Play and Sports

From outdoor adventures to movement sessions and team games, we build strength, balance, and coordination while promoting teamwork and joy in being active.

  • A woman and a young boy outdoors on a leaf-covered ground, looking at a learning sheet about nature or animals, with the woman pointing at the sheet.

    Outings and Nature Exploration

We extend learning beyond the nursery with local walks, park visits, and trips that connect children to their community and the wider world.

  • Children sitting inside a police car with open doors, with some adults standing nearby.

    Visitors and Local Partnerships

We welcome inspiring visitors, from artists and musicians to community helpers, and collaborate with local organisations to enrich the children’s experiences and connections

  • Young girl creating colorful abstract painting on large sheet of paper, lying on her stomach and pressing her hands into the paint, in a room with tables, red chairs, and a metal shelf.

    Awe and Wonder Moments

Every day, we create opportunities for children to experience wonder — whether it’s watching a butterfly emerge, feeling the texture of wood shavings, or hearing the crackle of cooking food. These magical moments spark lifelong curiosity and joy in learning.

  • Two young children are engaged in a science activity with colored liquids and pipettes at a table in a classroom. One child is sitting cross-legged with her head down, while the other is kneeling and pointing at the experiment.

    STEM and Problem Solving

Through hands-on exploration, children investigate how things work, experiment with materials, and find creative solutions. From building and measuring to simple science experiments, we nurture curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of discovery.
