SEND/Inclusion

Our Approach to Inclusion and SEND

At FRS Kindergarten, we believe that every child should feel welcomed, valued and supported. We are a fully inclusive early years setting and we recognise that all children are unique individuals with their own strengths, interests and needs. Our aim is to ensure that every child can access our curriculum and make meaningful progress, educationally, socially and emotionally.

Inclusive Practice

All staff are responsible for supporting all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). This means:

  • Children take part in the full life of the kindergarten.

  • Support is embedded through everyday play and learning.

  • Staff work closely as a team to ensure each child receives the right level of guidance and encouragement.

  • We are an accessible building, with step-free access and a lift, allowing children with mobility needs to move around safely and confidently.

How We Support Children

Some children may need:

  • Extra time to learn a new skill

  • Small group or 1:1 support

  • Adaptations to help them access activities

  • Specialist strategies to develop communication, physical skills, or emotional regulation

If we have any concerns about your child’s development, we will always speak with you first. We work in partnership with parents to decide the best next steps.

When needed, and always with parental consent, we may seek support from outside professionals such as:

  • Barnet SEND and Inclusion Teams

  • Speech and Language Therapy

  • Educational Psychology

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Specialist advisory teachers (e.g., hearing or vision impairment)

Together, we create personalised support plans to help your child progress.

For children with more complex or long-term needs, we may work with families to request an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment. Parents are always fully involved throughout this process.

Working Together

If you ever have concerns about your child’s talking, play skills, behaviour, physical development, or emotional wellbeing, please speak to your child’s key person. Early conversations make a big difference.
